Sterlington 18, Ruston 0
Sterlington unleashed three home runs and 18 hits in support of Breanna Sylvestri and Emarie Adams' two-hit pitching in an 18-0 Ouachita Tournament victory over Ruston, Friday afternoon at Panther Park.
Designated as the visiting team, the Lady Panthers came out of the chute swinging.
Sylvestri pulled a one-out single to right and stole second. Four straight batters made their way aboard with two outs. Rebekah Wood singled up the middle to open the scoring.
Stepping into the box next, Catherine Trichell reached on an error and Carson Lyon lined an RBI base hit off the third baseman's glove. Trichell trotted home as Amber Parnell was safe on a throwing error, bringing the score to 3-0.
Sterlington sent 14 batters to the plate in an 11-run second.
Trichell's three-run bomb, which missed the flag in center field, pushed the Lady Panthers' lead to 8-0. Later in the inning, K.B. Briley poled a three-run shot over the left field fence.
Sylvestri worked her way out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the bottom of the second. Third baseman Trichell and shortstop Briley threw out runners at home plate on force plays for the first two outs.
Kaela Mullins' two-run, opposite-field shot to right field capped a four-run third.
All nine starters contributed to an 18-hit barrage as the Lady Panthers (11-2) ran their winning streak to nine.
Briley went 3-for-4 with a dinger and four RBIs, Trichell homered and singled, Tanner Wilson, Wood and Lyon singled twice, Mullins went deep, and Sylvestri, Adams, Jayla Stewart, Parnell, Rachel Wisecarver and Jada Smith singled.
Kaylee Webb and Lakiya Woods singled for the Lady Bearcats (6-4).
Both teams continue tournament play Saturday. Making a quick turn-around, the Lady Panthers take on Alexandria Menard at 9 a.m., at Panther Park. Ruston is paired against Menard in the 1 p.m. game at the ULM Intramural Complex, Taco Bell Field.
