Caney Lake is turning out some monster bass.

LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie fishing is steadily picking up with lots of fish moving to shallow spawning areas. Lots of big slabs are being caught on shiners and jigs including the 120 series and black/chartreuse. Bass fishing has improved around shallow areas where there is grass with Chatter baits and soft plastics working best. A few bream catches have been reported on worms while catfishing is good on cold worms and night crawlers. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The lake is full and running over the spillway. No report on catches below the spillway but it should be improving. Crappie are moving to the shallows and hitting mostly shiners with some caught on yo-yos baited with shiners. Bass to 4 pounds have been caught on spinners and jigs. Some stripers are being caught at night around the lights on Rogues. Catfishing has been good on trotlines and yo-yos baited with big shiners or cheese and blood bait. CANEY LAKE — The big bass bonanza is kicking off as fish are moving to the shallows to spawn. This week’s report is anchored by a monster 12.94-pounder caught on a Rage Craw in three-foot water by Jacob Hearne from Choudrant. Others in the 8 to 9 pound range are starting to come in on crank baits, Rogues and soft plastics. Crappie are moving shallow with some good catches reported on the Double Silver Rainbow, Blue Back Shad and Blue Ice jigs. Bream have not yet started biting. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Some big crappie to 2.8 pounds are being caught on shiners and jigs, including the Purple Passion, Blue Pearl, Key Lime Pie and Black/Pink. Catfishing is good on cold worms and night crawlers. No report on bass.
