Central Hinds 13, Prairie View 1

RAYMOND, Miss. — Central Hinds broke up a 1-1 ballgame with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth on its way to a 13-1 victory over Prairie View on Wednesday.

Leading off the home half of the second, Spencer Smith pulled in at second on an error, moved to third on Jackson Smith's base hit and scored on Colby Burromeo's squeeze bunt.

Prairie View tied the game in the third when Jacob Farrar doubled home Blake Ray, who was hit by a pitch.

It remained 1-1 until things fell apart for the Spartans in the fifth.

Jackson Smith and Prentice Brown started the inning with consecutive singles and Michael McPhail chased both runners across with a two-run double. Chandler Mulligan walked to put runners at first and second with nobody out. The next two batters grounded out, but six straight Cougars reached safely with two away.

Keyed by Jackson Smith's two-run double, the Cougars picked up five more in the sixth.

Mulligan, the third of four CHA pitchers, was the winner.

CHA's first three batters finished the game just 1-for-11 with two runs scored, but the 6-9 spots took up the slack by going 11-for-17 and accounting for 11 runs. Hitting from the No. 6 slot, Jackson Smith went 4-for-4 with a double to pace the 12-hit attack. Brown and McPhail doubled and singled, Colin Hautle went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Beau Coumbe and Spencer Smith singled.

Farrar did the bulk of the damage for the Spartans (4-1), going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Tyler Peters and Cade Murphy added base hits.

Blake Ray went four-plus innings in taking the loss on the mound, with Hayes Crockett and Tanner Caldwell finishing up.
