Prairie View 10, Glenbrook 2
MINDEN — Jacob Farrar allowed just two base runners through 5.1 innings of shutdown relief as Prairie View throttled Glenbrook 10-2 Tuesday afternoon.
Taking control from the outset, the visiting Spartans plated four in the top of the first.
Layton Rainbolt opened the game with an infield hit and was forced at second when Tanner Caldwell grounded into a fielder's choice. Blake Ray's base hit set up Farrar's two-run double to right.
With still only one out, Hayes Crockett was hit by a pitch. Tyler Peters' sacrifice bunt left runners at second and third. Farrar and Crockett both scored on passed balls, upping the lead to 4-0.
Glenbrook shaved the deficit to 4-2 in the second.
Brandon Merritt drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored on Jackson Powell's one-out single. Peyton Wells followed with another RBI single.
One out later, Cameron Barnett's double placed runners at second and third.
Called to the mound, Farrar slammed the door from there. Farrar yielded a one-out single to Nick Mourad in the third and a two-out single to Parker Christy in the fifth before retiring the final seven batters.
Meanwhile, the Spartans added one in the third, three in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Cade Murphy singled home Peters, who was hit by a pitch, in the third.
Ray singled, Farrar walked and Crockett singled to load the bases with one away in the fourth. Peters squeezed Ray across and Gage Riles jolted a two-run double to center as the Spartans opened up an 8-2 bulge.
RBI singles by Connor Ouellette and Rainbolt in the sixth wrapped up the scoring.
Farrar whiffed six without issuing a walk for the win in relief of Ray.
Prairie View (4-0) sprayed 13 hits, including two singles each by Rainbolt, Caldwell, Ray, Crockett and Ouellette. Farrar and Riles doubled and Murphy singled.
Barnett doubled and Christy, Mourad, Powell and Wells singled for the Apaches.
Prairie View travels to Central Hinds (Miss.) on Wednesday.
