Prairie View 7, Claiborne Academy 3

HAYNESVILLE — Jacob Farrar went 2-for-3 and picked up the win on the mound as Prairie View prevailed over Claiborne Academy 7-3 Saturday morning.

Prairie View grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

Opening the game with a seven-pitch at bat, Layton Rainbolt walked, swiped second, moved to third on Tanner Caldwell's groundout and tallied on Blake Ray's base hit to left. Ray later stole home.

Claiborne drew even with single markers in the first and second.

Gage Burnham singled with one out in the first, Wyatt Fain walked and Dennis McClung stroked a two-out, RBI single.

Cason Hollenshead singled with two outs in the second and eventually crossed home on an error as the Rebels leveled at 2-2.

It remained tied until the Spartans plated two in the fifth.

Ray walked, Jacob Farrar singled and Hayes Crockett drew a base on balls to load the bases with nobody out. Austin Carroll reached on an error and Crockett stole home with two outs as the Spartans forged ahead 4-2.

Claiborne closed the gap to one in its half of the fifth as Ay Heard belted a leadoff double and scored when Burnham was safe on an error.

Prairie View opened up some space with three in the seventh.

Farrar cranked a one-out double, Crockett walked, Carroll singled and Connor Ouellette jabbed an RBI single.

Farrar retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Farrar allowed one run (unearned) on one hit through 3.2 innings of relief to gain the win. Prairie View starter Tanner Caldwell gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits in 3.1 frames.

Farrar doubled and singled to lead the Spartans (2-0) at the plate, Carroll singled twice and Ray and Ouellette provided base knocks.

Heard and Fain doubled, and Burnham, McClung, Hayden Johnson, Hollenshead and Kip Reeder singled for Claiborne.

Losing pitcher was Fain with Grady Brasher in relief.
