Sterlington 8, Airline 0
Trey Rugg threw six strong innings and Brooks Rushworth went 4-for-4 with four RBIs as Sterlington blanked Airline 8-0 Friday night in the Trey Altick Tournament at Panther Park.
Sterlington (4-0) gave Rugg all the run support he wound need early.
Walks by Carson Clowers and Davis Johnson got the Panthers started in the first. Rushworth's double and Luke Denman's sacrifice fly made it 3-0.
Keeping the pressure on, Sterlington added four more in the second.
With one away, Tucker Allen was hit by a pitch, Brock Risinger singled, Jarrett McDonald reached on an error and Carson Clowers walked. Stepping to the plate with two down and the bases loaded, Rushworth shellacked a three-run triple to give the Panthers a commanding 7-0 advantage.
Two innings later, Rushworth laced a two-out single and circled the bases on Luke Denman's RBI double to wrap up the scoring.
Rugg cruised through six innings, striking out seven and walking one while yielding three hits. Taylor Martin pitched his way into and out of trouble in the seventh to preserve the shutout. After walking the first two batters he faced, Martin retired the side on a fielder's choice, a strikeout and another fielder's choice.
Rushworth poled a triple, a double and two singles and scored twice to lead the Panthers' 10-hit production. Denman went 2-for-3 with a double, a single and a sac fly, Risinger supplied a pair of singles, Braden Hough doubled and Johnson singled.
Hunter Hollis had two singles and Harrison Tauzin added a base hit for the Vikings (1-5).
