East Ascension 5, Sterlington 3
MONROE — Rachel Ducote went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, including a decisive two-run double, as East Ascension won a 5-3 verdict over Sterlington, Saturday morning in the Polar Bear Classic.
Ducote's two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh enabled the Lady Spartans to carry a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Catherine Trichell drove the second pitch of the Sterlington seventh over the center field fence, and Breanna Sylvestri walked to bring the tying run to the plate. EA's Erin Nicole then retired the next three batters to finish a complete game effort.
Carson Lyon singled home K.B. Briley, who singled and moved to second on an error, to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 first-inning lead.
Ducote tied the game with a solo blast to start the fourth.
It remained 1-1 until the Lady Spartans broke through for two in the sixth.
Again the catalyst, Ducote opened the frame with a double and eventually scored the go-ahead run on Brynnen Gautreau's base hit. Gautreau stole third and later crossed on a sacrifice fly by Meagan Ross.
Sterlington closed the gap to 3-2 in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Tanner Wilson and Briley.
Nicole allowed two earned runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking two for the win.
