Sterlington 9, LaSalle 1
K.B. Briley socked a two-run home run and Breanna Sylvestri carried a shutout into the seventh inning as Sterlington won a 9-1 decision over LaSalle, Friday night in the Polar Bear Classic.
Sterlington opened the scoring in the top of the first when Briley banged a one-out double and scored on Carson Lyon's sacrifice fly.
Jada Smith doubled with one out in the third to set up Briley's two-run shot over the right-center fence as the Lady Panthers expanded their lead to 3-0.
Kaela Mullins opened the Sterlington fifth with a base hit to right field, stole second, moved to third on Smith's sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth, Mullins came through with a two-run single. Rebekah Woods, who was hit by a pitch, and Amber Parnell, aboard on a fielder's choice, crossed home on Mullins' clutch hit as the Lady Panthers went up 6-0.
Lyons' RBI groundout and Wood's run-scoring single keyed a three-run seventh, bringing the score to 7-0.
LaSalle avoided the shutout in the seventh when Anna Pittman drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on Ashley Williams' groundout and made her way home on Anna Clark's base hit down the right field line.
Sylvestri allowed only one runner past second base through the first six innings. She allowed four hits — all singles — while striking out seven and walking four.
Briley homered, doubled and scored three runs to pace the Lady Panthers (2-1) at the plate. Smith doubled, singled and scored twice, and Lyons, Mullins and Wood furnished base knocks.
Ali Long, Keeley Parham, Taylor Snow and Clark singled for the Lady Tigers (0-1).
Snow went the distance in the circle in a losing cause, striking out four and walking one.
