Sterlington will open the Class 3A girls basketball state playoffs on the road. Seeded No. 22, the Lady Panthers trek to No. 11 Kaplan. Game time has been set for Thursday at 6 p.m.

Kaplan (26-8, 9-1) is the District 2-3A co-champion along with North Vermilion. The Lady Pirates bring an eight-game winning streak into the playoffs, including a 55-40 triumph over Class B Midland in the regular season finale.

Sterlington (14-18, 2-10) closed out regular season play Friday night with a 57-41 loss to Richwood.

The Sterlington-Kaplan winner advances to play the No. 27 Green Oaks-No. 6 Albany winner in Round 2.

Other first-round games involving District 2-3A teams include No. 17 Richwood at No. 16 Marksville, No. 25 W.L. Cohen at No. 8 Wossman, No. 21 Donaldsonville at No. 12 Madison Parish and No. 29 Carroll at No. 4 Brusly.
