Bastrop 69, Vision Academy 45

Danny Hill scored 11 of his 26 points in the first quarter as Bastrop coasted to a 69-45 result over Vision Academy on Tuesday night.

Hill's 3-pointer broke a 2-all tie and put the Rams ahead to stay.

Bastrop was up 16-10 at the end of the opening frame and led by as many as 11 in the first half.

SirQuan Hawkins drove the middle of the lane for a layup and Garrett Guirlando connected on a jumper from the free throw line to give the Rams a 28-17 cushion. Dewayne Clark drove the left baseline to draw the visiting Eagles within 28-19 at halftime.

Bastrop broke the game open with a 12-0 run to start the third quarter.

Cortlen Newsome set up Denterrius McHenry twice from point-blank range, sandwiched around a pair of Hawkins free throws to give the Rams a 34-19 advantage. Returning the favor, McHenry dished to Newsome on the break, and Hawkins accounted for six straight points on 4-of-5 free throw shooting and a transition basket as Bastrop extended the margin to 40-19.

Bastrop carried a 48-29 lead into the final frame.

Vision closed within 14 (51-37) with just over five minutes to play on Sirlarious Owens' tip-in, but Bastrop quickly pushed the spread back to 20 on a pair of buckets by Hawkins and Hill's layup.

Hawkins finished with 16 points to join Hill in double figures. Also scoring for the Rams (16-8) were McHenry with six, Newsome and Jordan Rabun with five, Keyshawn Scott with four, A.J. Fenceroy with three, and Guirlando and Neverless Frazier with two.

Ja'Kyron Williams was high scorer for the Eagles (9-13) with 16, followed by Owens with 15, Clark with nine, Terrious South with three and Jalan Brown with two.

Bastrop returns to District 2-4A play Friday night at Neville. Starting time is 6 p.m. for the girls game, with the boys matchup to follow.
