Franklin Academy 46, Prairie View 27

Franklin Academy clinched second place in MAIS District 5-2A Friday night with a 46-27 victory over Prairie View at Spartan Gym.

Rachel Barnhill's short turnaround gave the Lady Spartans their only lead, 4-3.

With the score even at 6-6, Hope Lord sank a pair of foul shots and Jesalyn Jarrette connected from the perimeter to put the Lady Cougars ahead to stay.

Leading 11-10 at the end of the opening frame, the Lady Cougars widened the gap to seven on Mary Beth Gravelle's mid-range jumper, Abigail Thomas' layup off the bounce pass from Lord and Hallie Herron's transition basket.

Prairie View countered with a 5-0 run. Amelia Crnkovic made the front end of a one-and-one, Maci Herrington swished a jumper from the key and Chloe Halterman finished on the break to bring the Lady Spartans within 17-15.

Franklin would gradually pull away from there.

Goals by Brooke Wall and Herron pushed the lead to 21-15 at halftime, and the Lady Cougars opened up a 32-20 spread by intermission.

Jarrette was high scorer for the Lady Cougars (4-11, 3-3) with 15 points. Audra Thomas (7), Gravelle (6), Lord (6), Abigail Thomas (6), Herron (4) and Wall (2) rounded out the scoring.

Crnkovic was the Lady Spartans' (2-13, 1-4) lone double figures scorer with 12. Herrington had four, with three from Halterman and two each by Hannah Billings, Tabor Moyers, Barnhill and Tori Gardner.
