Making its first postseason appearance in program history, Sterlington opens the Division IV boys state soccer playoffs at home against Calvary Baptist on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Sterlington (13-9-2) qualified for the playoffs as the No. 10 seed in its first season of eligibility. As a start-up program, the Panthers competed as an independent last year.

Coach Kyle Keyes' Panthers clinched second place in District 2 with a 3-0 victory over Grace Christian last Thursday in Alexandria.

Playing their third game in as many days, the Panthers fell to Brandon (Miss.) 6-1 in the regular season finale. The loss snapped a season-best four-game winning streak.

Calvary (8-6-1) finished runner-up to Evangel in District 1. Wrapping up the regular season, the Cavaliers swept a home-and-home with North Caddo 6-0, 5-0.

Thursday's winner will travel to No. 7 Baton Rouge Dunham in the second round.

In other first-round games involving District 2 teams, No. 17 Delta Charter travels to No. 16 Ascension Christian, No. 24 Vidalia is at No. 9 Glenmora and No. 21 Rapides visits Christ Episcopal. No. 8 St. Frederick received a first-round pass into the second round and awaits the Vidalia-Glenmora winner.
