Franklin Parish 62, Bastrop 60

Bastrop finally clicked offensively Friday night. Unfortunately for the Lady Rams, their offensive slump continued one quarter too long.

Franklin Parish bolted out to a 17-3 first quarter lead and withstood Bastrop's second half charge in a 62-60 District 2-4A victory at Sam's Place.

Michala Winn scored five points as the Lady Patriots dominated the first quarter.

Franklin Parish maintained a 14-point lead, 31-14, at the half.

Casual Williams poured in 10 points on a pair of 3s as Bastrop cut the deficit to 45-37 at the end of three.

Bastrop drew within one midway through the fourth quarter on Martianna Johnson's 3-pointer, but could never take the lead.

"We played better in the second half," Bastrop coach Gerline Guillaume said. "We stayed in a man-to-man the whole second half. Our shots didn't fall in the first quarter, but we fought through it. We didn't win, but I was proud of the effort."

Shamira Boley-Brown made 6-of-9 fourth quarter free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Patriots seal the result.

Regrouping after the tepid start, the Lady Rams scored 57 points over the final three quarters en route to a season-high point total. Outside of a 58-point output against an overmatched Vision Academy side, Bastrop's high-point level came in a 51-50 Dec. 28 victory over Richwood.

Boley-Brown scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half to pace the Lady Patriots (9-14, 2-2), and Maisha Ward had 12. Winn scored nine points.

According to the official book, Winn was ejected for punching a Bastrop player.

Williams poured in 16 of her 20 points in the second half and Javia Kennedy scored nine of her 19 points in the final quarter to spearhead the Lady Rams (5-16, 0-4). Bastrop also received nine from Johnson, six from Destiny Cephas, two each from TyDeijah Minnieweather and Destiny Neblett and one apiece from Tiffany Washington and Cynthia Washington.

Franklin Parish made 22-of-35 (62.8 percent) free throws, while Bastrop was 14-of-25 (56 percent) from the stripe.

Bastrop returns to the court Monday at home against Union Parish. Tipoff time is 6 p.m.
