CANEY LAKE — The crappie bite has started down deep. Some good catches are being made fishing 25 feet deep in 35-40 foot water on shiners or jigs such as the Diamond Mist, Threadfin Shad, Eclipse and Blue Back Shad. Bass fishing has improved in deep water on jigging spoons and jigs. Yellow bass are starting to hit jigging spoons as well. OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie are hitting jigs such as the Blue Pearl, Lights Out, Gum Drop, Electric Mo-Glo Chicken and Blue Chrome around tops in the river fishing 14-15 feet deep in 18-20 foot water. LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie are starting to bite in the channels fishing 18-20 feet deep in 22-30 foot water. Best jigs have been the Blue Pearl, Diamond Mist, Disco Blue and Watermelon. Bass fishing has been best in the sloughs on soft plastics, spinner baits and crank baits. Catfishing is good fishing cold worms on the flats. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie fishing is steadily improving fishing the Popsicle jig along with shiners. Best reports are coming from the stumps down around the dam in deep water. A few stripers and bar fish are being caught along with the crappie. No report this week on bass or catfish.
