Franklin Parish 54, Bastrop 38

WINNSBORO — Shamira Boley-Brown scored 20 points as Franklin Parish downed the Bastrop Lady Rams 54-38 Friday night in the District 2-4A opener for both teams.

Bastrop was originally prepared to play at home Friday night. Due to a scheduling mixup — both schools had the game listed as a home game on their schedules — the Lady Rams agreed to make the trip to Winnsboro late Friday morning.

Franklin Parish held a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and steadily added on. It was 21-15 at halftime and 36-26 after three. Separating down the stretch, the Lady Patriots outscored the Lady Rams 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Since scoring a season-high 51 points in a Dec. 28 Rayville Tournament win over Richwood, the Lady Rams (4-12, 0-1) have scored 36, 30 and 38 points in their past three outings.

"It was the same thing again," Bastrop coach Gerline Guillaume said. "I don't know how we are going to get out of this shooting slump. We have been working on our shooting in practice."

Guillaume says shot selection isn't a problem.

"We missed a lot of easy baskets tonight," Guillaume said. "I'm not disappointed in the effort. We're getting good looks. We just have to start knocking down some shots."

Boley-Brown led a trio of Lady Patriots (7-11, 1-0) in double digits with 20 points, with Maisha Ward and Michala Winn contributing 11 apiece.

Casual Williams was Bastrop's lone double figures scorer with 11 points. Javia Kennedy had eight, Chyberia Wilson six, Destiny Cephas five and Jamese Rabun and Cynthia Washington two each.
