For the most part, cold temperatures have kept anglers off the water.
BLACK BAYOU — No report. Contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707 for latest information.
CANEY LAKE — No report this week; no fishermen out. However, once the temperatures moderate just a bit to make conditions more bearable for fishermen, the outlook should be really good. No doubt the shad are all down in deep water and you can look for the crappie and bass to be where the shad are. Tail spinners, jigging spoons and crappie jigs fished where sonar shows concentrations of bait fish should work quite well. For latest information contact Brown’s Landing at 259.6649, Greg Terzia’s Bait and Tackle at 278.4498, Hooks Marina at 249.2347 or the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707.
OUACHITA RIVER — No report; nobody fishing. For latest information, contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707.
CHENIERE LAKE — The lake is down with road work going on which is limiting access to the lake. Contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707 for latest information.
LAKE D’ARBONNE — A few anglers have ventured out and have reported success with the crappie fishing deep where the bait fish have gone. Once the weather warms a bit look for more crappie anglers to be out and they’ll likely be fishing the deep channels with jigs or shiners. Bass should be best fishing jigs really slow around deep water structure. With temperatures in the mid-teens all week, no report of fishermen trying the catfish. For latest reports, call Anderson’s Sport Center at 368.9669 or Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707.
LAKE CLAIBORNE — Before this week’s polar blast, the crappie had started to bite down in deep water out from the dam. Fishing shiners or jigs down where the shad have retreated should produce some improving catches of crappie once cold surface temperatures moderate a bit making sitting in a boat on the lake more bearable. No report on bass, stripers or catfish this week. With the water 8-10 feet low, boat launching is limited to Area 2 at the State Park and at Pleasure Point. For latest information, call Tim Lofton at Kel’s Cove at 927.2264.
LAKE POVERTY POINT — No report this week. For latest reports, call Poverty Point Marina at 318.878.0101.
LAKE ST. JOHN — Crappie fishing has improved on shiners and jigs. Bass have been fair; not many fish but better quality. For latest information contact Ken Mahoney at 318.757.0013.
LAKE YUCATAN — The water is at standstill and will begin slowly falling. Once the weather moderates, look for the crappie bite to improve. For latest information, call Surplus City Landing at 318.467.2259.
LAKE BRUIN — No fishermen this week. Reports of canals frozen over. For latest information, call Colby or Seth at 318.766.0075.
