Sterlington 47, Caldwell 30

Turning in one of its better defensive efforts to this point, Sterlington smothered Caldwell Parish 47-30 early Friday afternoon in the Sterlington Shoot-Out.

Kyle Henderson was in the proverbial zone early, scoring 12 points with a pair of 3-pointers, as Sterlington sprinted to a 17-3 first quarter lead.

Caldwell trimmed the deficit to 26-16 at halftime behind three buckets from Devonte Tatum and a 3-pointer from Kenneth Harris.

Henderson put up six points in the third quarter as the Panthers' lead swelled to 43-27.

Henderson totaled 18 points and Kaden Key tossed in 10 on 6-of-6 free throw shooting. Justin Fuller dropped in nine points, Colby Rivera four and Trea Green two for the Panthers.

Tatum paced the Spartans with nine points.

Sterlington was lights out from the line, making 15-of-18 (83.3 percent), while Caldwell was 5-of-14 (35.7 percent).

With the win, the Panthers improved to 12-3. Caldwell dropped to 5-9 with its fifth straight loss.

The two teams meet again Friday night in Columbia.
