CANEY LAKE — Good cool weather fishing is beginning to pay off for bass, crappie and yellow bass bouncing jigging spoons and tail spinners off the bottom down deep. A big bass was caught this week, one weighing 10.75 pounds. Some bass are still being caught on Alabama rigs for suspended fish and shad colored jigs are picking up some crappie around deep brush. OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie fishing has been best in the river, fishing 14 feet deep in 22 foot water around submerged tops on jigs and shiners. LAKE D’ARBONNE — The crappie bite is improving in the deep channels fishing 18 feet deep in 20-25 foot water. Shiners and jigs are working with favorite jigs being Blue Chrome, Blue Storm, Green Hornet and Diamond Mist. Look for the bass to be around grass along the channel edges. Soft plastics, spinners and crank baits are working best. Bream fishing has been fair just off the banks along Highway 2 while catfish are biting all around the lake. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The water is down 8-10 feet. Crappie have slowed down with some starting to move to the deepest part of the lake out from the dam. A few have been caught on shiners. Bass have been fair fishing soft plastics and shad imitations fairly shallow as they are chasing shad that have yet to move deep. No report on stripers, catfish or bream.. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie fishing has been best fishing the south end of the lake using black/pink, Pink Panther and Screamer jigs. A few are biting around the boat slips. Bass and bar fish have been fair fishing spoons, crank baits and tail spinners fairly deep. Catfishing is good with some really big 15-20 pounders caught on cut shad.
