CANEY LAKE — With the arrival of the first significant cold front, the fish seem to be in shock but as it settles in to typical fall/winter patterns, the fishing should improve. Crappie are likely around deep brush and shiners or jigs should produce a few fish. Bass are best on the deeper submerged points with soft plastics and crank baits working best. OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie fishing has been best fishing in the river around sunken tops in 18-20 foot water fishing 14 feet deep using shiners or jigs. LAKE D’ARBONNE — The crappie bite is gradually picking up as the fish are moving to the deeper channels. Best catches on shiners or jigs has been fishing 14 feet deep in 16-20 foot water around sunken brush. Bass fishing is fair with best catches coming in the sloughs where there is grass. Crank baits, spinners and soft plastics are picking up a few. Bream have slowed but catfish continue to bite cold worms around the lake. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The water is down at least seven feet, likely more and the cold front passage with heavy winds has slowed fishing down quite a bit. The crappie bite is off and bass have been hard to find. Catfishing is slow and the stripers are nowhere to be found. LAKE YUCATAN — Bass fishing has been quite good this week using topwater lures for fish in the 5-6 pound range. Winds have kept crappie fishermen off the lake but once winds die down, fishing should improve. For latest information, call Surplus City Landing at 318.467.2259.

LAKE BRUIN — Bass have been fair to good with best catches made afternoons on crank baits, Rat-L-Traps, tail spinners and trick worms. Stripers are hitting around the lights at night on crank baits.
