CANEY LAKE — Crappie fishing has improved with best catches made around submerged tops on shiners while some fish have been caught fairly shallow. Bass are schooling and hitting shad imitations, Chug Bug topwater lures and crank baits. Some are being caught from deeper water on drop shot rigs. Chinquapins have slowed down with very few caught on cold worms. No report on catfish. OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie fishing has been best fishing in the river or river lakes around the submerged tops on Gum Drop jigs and hair jigs. Bass are best on crank baits, spinners. Schooling fish are hitting shad imitations. For latest information, contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707.

LAKE D’ARBONNE — The crappie bite is picking up with cooler weather being responsible. Most are being caught in the creeks and deeper channels fishing 6-10 feet deep in 18-20 foot water. Best jigs this week are the black and pink, Blue Ice, Blue Pearl and 120-RH. Bass are schooling and hitting Rat-L-Traps, spinners and crank baits. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The water is down to seven feet and the gates have been closed. Bass fishing had been good but the weather change slowed them a bit. Crappie fishing continues to be fair fishing shiners or jigs around submerged tops. Catfishing has been good off the banks using cold worms. Stripers are nowhere to be seen.
