CANEY LAKE — Crappie fishing has improved with best catches made around submerged tops on shiners. Bass are schooling, especially around the McDonald road bed and hitting Yellow Magic when they’re up and Wing Dings when they’re down. Some are also being caught in the grass on the Sinko. Catfish are being caught off the banks and around the piers fishing with night crawlers and cold worms. Bream are slow to fair. OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie fishing has been best fishing 6-10 feet deep in 15 foot water around the tops on shiners and jigs. Bass are best fishing shad imitations at the run-outs. For latest information, contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707.

LAKE D’ARBONNE — Crappie are fair with best catches made in the deeper sloughs and channel edges fishing 8-10 feet deep in 20 foot water on a variety of jigs, including the Lights Out, 120-with red, Lady Bug and Black Widow. Bass are best around the grass fishing spinners, soft plastics and crank baits. Bream have slowed but plenty of catfish are being caught on cold worms around the lake. LAKE CLAIBORNE —The water is down to seven feet and the gates have been closed. Bass fishing has been good as the fish are chasing shad. Best catches have been made on soft plastics. Crappie are still hitting shiners and jigs fished around the sunken tops. No report on bream, catfish or stripers.
