Sterlington 22, Oak Grove 6 (7th Grade)

Sterlington Middle School was a 22-6 winner over Oak Grove in seventh grade action Tuesday evening at Panther Stadium.

Max Risinger's 2-yard run on the opening possession staked the Panthers to a 6-0 first quarter lead.

Taking over at the 33 in Oak Grove territory after a fumble, the Panthers scored seven plays later on Parker Miller's 3-yard run. Jacob Guthrie caught the 2-point pass as Sterlington built a 14-0 lead.

Colin Crow's interception enabled the Panthers to regain possession at their own 44 with 19 seconds left in the half.

Sterlington advanced to the 24 as Mason Lawhon completed passes of 17 yards to Guthrie and 15 yards to Cooper Smith before the clock expired.

Receiving the second half kickoff, the Tigers went three and out as Lawhon and Kellen Hall combined to stop a third-and-four rushing attempt for a loss of three.

Setting up at their own 42 after the punt, the Panthers covered 58 yards on a dozen plays.

On the third play of the series, Lawhon kept for 13 yards to convert a fourth-and-eight as SMS pushed across midfield. Miller's 11-yard run and a 10-yard carry by Smith eventually set up Lawhon's 4-yard touchdown. Lawhon also ran the 2-point conversion as the Panthers opened up a 22-0 lead.

Moments later, Cayden Moody's 50-yard touchdown burst on the final play of the third quarter put Oak Grove on the board.

Smith paced the Panthers' rushing attack with seven carries for 42 yards, followed by Lawhon with six carries for 34. Miller added nine carries for 32 yards along with a 22-yard reception.

Lawhon completed 3-of-7 passes for 54 yards.

Miller, Hall, Crow and Maddox Bryan led the Panthers' defensive effort.
