Sterlington 8, Oak Grove 0 (8th Grade)

Sterlington Middle School and Oak Grove appeared to be headed for a scoreless draw until Cole Thompson found Luke Handy on a 69-yard scoring pass with 2:39 remaining in Tuesday night's eighth grade game.

Both teams had their opportunities, but neither defense would break until Thompson found the unchecked Handy near midfield on third-and-11 for the game's only touchdown. Thompson's 2-point run brought the final to 8-0.

Nick Whittington's fumble recovery on the Tigers' final series preserved the victory.

Oak Grove made its deepest penetration on its initial possession of the second half before Handy recovered a fourth down fumble at the Sterlington 23.

Joe Campanale's interception on the next play from scrimmage put the Tigers back in business at the Sterlington 29.

After a false start, Ram Foster shut down an option for a loss of four on second down and Cliff Jones stopped a fourth-and-10 running play for a short gain to end the threat.

Thompson rushed for 49 yards on five carries while Chase Mitchell picked up 47 yards on seven attempts to pace the Panthers offensively.

Leading the defensive push for the Panthers were J'Keldric Miller, Foster, Jones, Whittington, Bryce Lark, Armond Mills and Tony Rivera.

Kaleb Proctor, Seth Maricone, Zach Womach, Darius Nelson, Bo Stampley and Campanale spearheaded the Tigers' defensive charge.
