CANEY LAKE — Bass continue to school early mornings and late afternoons with best bet to catch some being topwater lures and shad imitations. Later in the day, plastic worms are picking up a few on deep water points. Crappie fishing has been fair around brush tops in fairly deep water with shiners working best. LAKE D’ARBONNE — Bass fishing has picked up with a good many fish caught in the sloughs around the grass on spinners and crank baits. Crappie are scattered and hard to locate. Bream have slowed down but the catfish continue to be good on cold worms fished off the banks and on the flats. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The drawdown is underway and by week’s end the lake level has dropped some two feet. Bass fishing has been fair to good in the coves fishing Brush Hawgs. Most are medium sized fish. Crappie have been fair on shiners fished around the submerged tops. Best fishing has been below the spillway for stripers as water has lots of current. Most are being caught on crank baits. LAKE BRUIN — Bass have been fair with some in the 4-5 pound range caught on plastic worms, topwater lures, Rat-L-Traps and crank baits.
