Prairie View 10, River Oaks 4

MONROE — Maci Herrington had two hits and Elle Morgan went the distance in the circle as Prairie View prevailed over River Oaks 10-4 Wednesday afternoon in MAIS District 5-2A softball play.

Prairie View went ahead to stay with two in the top of the third.

Anna Grace White reached on a leadoff error, Emma Goss singled to place runners at the corners, Morgan was safe on a two-base error and Herrington laced an RBI single to center as the Lady Spartans opened up a 2-0 lead.

Leading 2-1 after three complete innings, Prairie View began to pull away with three in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Chloe Hobbs walked and Madi Crymes and White made their way aboard on consecutive errors to load the bases with one out in the fourth. Hobson and Crymes both scored on wild pitches and White dashed home on an RBI groundout by Goss.

Herrington walked and Kayla Hawthorne singled to put runners at first and third with nobody out in the fifth. Hankins followed with an RBI groundout and Kaitlyn Bader added a sacrifice bunt, bringing the score to 7-1.

River Oaks plated one in the bottom of the fifth, and the Lady Spartans countered with one in the sixth and two in the seventh to open up a 10-2 cushion. The Lady Mustangs concluded the scoring with a deuce in the seventh.

Morgan allowed three earned runs on seven hits for the win.

Herrington went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to pace the Lady Spartans. Goss, Hawthorne and Hankins supplied base hits.
