Prairie View 13, River Oaks 2
Rachel Hankins helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 with a grand slam and seven RBI as the Prairie View Lady Spartans dealt River Oaks a 13-2 setback Thursday afternoon in MAIS District 5-2A play.
Prairie View got all it would need in the bottom of the first.
Anna Grace White started it off with a double to right-center and crossed home on Kayla Hawthorne's one-out single. Maci Herrington followed with an RBI double.
One out later, Hankins drove in her first run of the day with a double to center. After Madi Crymes walked, Chloe Hobson's run-scoring single upped the Lady Spartans' lead to 4-0.
Prairie View widened its advantage to 7-1 with three in the second.
White led off with a double for the second straight inning and touched home on Hawthorne's one-out double. Herrington then singled and stole second to set up Hankins' two-run single.
Prairie View scored six runs with two outs in the third to open up an insurmountable 13-1 lead.
Emma Goss singled with one away and White hit into a force play for the second out. Kaitlyn Bader then reached on an error and Hawthorne singled to load the bases. Herrington's single drove in White with the first run of the inning and Bader scored on a passed ball. Next, Elle Morgan walked to reload the bases, setting up Hankins' grand slam over the center field fence.
River Oaks wrapped up the scoring with a run in the fourth.
Hankins allowed five hits in the five-inning complete game win.
Prairie View totaled 14 hits as Hankins homered, doubled and singled, White bashed two doubles and a single, Hawthorne and Herrington both supplied a double, two singles and two RBI, and Hobson and Goss singled.
