UCA 16, Prairie View 10

FARMERVILLE — Down to nine players, the Prairie View Lady Spartans put up an admirable fight in a 16-10 loss to Union Christian on Saturday.

UCA jumped out to an early 11-0 lead with four in the first and seven in the second. Trailing 13-4 after three, the Lady Spartans scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth to climb within 13-8. UCA added three more in the bottom of the fifth to go up 16-8. Prairie View wrapped up the scoring in the sixth on back-to-back, two-out RBI singles by Maci Herrington and Rachel Hankins.

Isabella Fulton went the distance for the win, striking out eight and walking two.

Prairie View out-hit the Lady Lions 13-11. Moving into the leadoff slot, Emma Goss went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Lady Spartans. Hankins drove in two runs with a double and a single, Kayla Hawthorne, Maci Herrington and Chloe Hobson provided two singles apiece, and Madi Crymes and Mauri Herrington singled.

Hankins was dealt the loss for the Lady Spartans with Hawthorne in relief.

Catcher Anna Grace White and pitcher/infielder Elle Morgan missed the game with injuries for the Lady Spartans.

Prairie View will dedicate its new softball field Tuesday, with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m., prior to a 5 p.m. game vs. UCA. On Thursday, the Lady Spartans host Glenbrook in district play.
