CANEY LAKE — Crappie fishing has been best casting ultra-light jigs and small spinners around submerged tops sitting in 15 foot water. The fish are not in the tops but are hanging just over the tops or around the sides. Bass are schooling early and late with some caught on topwater lures. Some better fish are being caught at night using dark spinners or plastic worms along shorelines. Bream fishing is good on crickets and worms. OUACHITA RIVER — Best fishing for crappie has been in the river lakes spider rigging a variety of jigs. Bass are at the mouth of river lakes with shad imitations working best. LAKE D’ARBONNE — The bream and catfish continue to be quite good in the lake using cold worms, crickets or night crawlers off the banks. Spider rigging the sloughs is workin on crappie but best catches are being made below the spillway casting ultra-light jigs. Bass fishing has been fair to good on plastic frogs, worms and lizards around grass and trees with best catches made around the sloughs. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Good news is that stripers are starting to chase shad on the surface and shad imitation lures are picking up a few when they’re up top. Trolling white bucktails is working when fish go down. Bass fishing is fair with best bets being fishing submerged brush and ridges with plastic worms. Some are schooling as well and taking shad imitations. Crappie are best around the deep tops on shiners and jigs. Bream fishing has been good around the beds on crickets and worms.
