Sterlington Senior Q & A
Continuing preseason preparations, the Sterlington Panthers will strap on the pads for the first time Thursday morning.
Four seniors — strong safety Trevor Jones, linebacker Dawson Snell, guard Whit Buffington and quarterback Carson Clowers — shared their thoughts on the upcoming campaign following Wednesday's practice session.
NOWN: What was the most fun part of your summer?
Trevor Jones: I took a trip to the beach (Gulf Shores, Alabama) with friends and family before I started workouts out for football and going to work.
Dawson Snell: Riding 4-wheelers, mud-riding and fishing. I caught some cats, a few bass and a few frogs.
Whit Buffington: Just hanging out with family and friends. We went to Caney Lake a couple of times and did some fishing.
Carson Clowers: Playing baseball for D-Bat Ark-La-Tex with Brooks (Rushworth) and Jarrett (McDonald). I also played for Team Louisiana in Troy, Alabama. There were about 30 college coaches at every game, and we won the tournament.
NOWN: What is the biggest improvement we can expect to see in your individual game this year?
Jones: Just being a leader, talking more on the field and getting everybody lined up.
Snell: Probably talking a little louder and being a leader by my actions.
Buffington: I feel like I have gotten a lot faster. I expect to be more of a leader, and to look at others before myself.
Clowers: Mainly, I just want to stay healthy all year. I wasn't at 100 percent last year until probably the second round of the playoffs.
NOWN: Which teammate is going to be the most pleasant surprise?
Jones:Bailyn McKoin. He didn't get a lot of playing time last year, but he's worked hard over the summer and is ready to step up.
Snell: Trey Eddins has gotten bigger and stronger and has more experience.
Buffington: Brock Risinger. He's a young guy, but he plays like he's been starting all along. He's going to help us a lot this year at weakside guard.
Clowers: Brooks didn't play a lot last year because he was hurt. He's moved to tight end (from defensive end), and is really going to help us.
NOWN: Which game are you most looking forward to?
Jones: OCS. We have to beat them after what happened last time.
Snell: OCS for the same reason as Trevor. They beat us last year and they're our rival.
Buffington: OCS because it didn't turn out good for us last year. We have to redeem ourselves and finish out with a win against them.
Clowers: Calvary. I played baseball with a couple of their guys over the summer. It's going to be a cool place to play. They have nice facilities and sweet jerseys.
