Five members of the City of Bastrop Track have earned the right to compete in the 51st USATF National Junior Olympics Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.

Five athletes will represent the City of Bastrop Track Club at the 51st USA Hershey Track and Field National Junior Olympics Championships in Lawrence, Kansas. The event, which started Monday and runs through Sunday, is being held at Rock Chalk Park on the campus of the University of Kansas. The Bastrop athletes, who will not compete until later in the week, will depart early Wednesday morning.

Nearly 10,000 youths ages 7-18 are expected to compete in the meet.

City of Bastrop Track Club members qualified through the Region VI Meet held recently in Huntsville, Alabama. Advancing to the Nationals were Semaj Girtmon in the boys javelin (ages 15-16), James Carter in the boys shot put and discus (ages 15-16); Cameron Jackson in the boys shot put (ages 13-14); Alyssa Dismuke in the girls shot put and discus (ages 15-16) and Jacorian Young in the boys long jump (ages 9-10).
