CANEY LAKE — With the arrival of hot weather, look for the bass to be chasing shad on top early and late. Later in the day, deep diving crank baits and oversized plastic worms worked on deep water humps and ditches will pick up some bigger fish. Night fishing is picking up with dark colored plastic worms and black spinners working best. Crappie fishing has been fair fishing the deep tops with shiners working best. LAKE D’ARBONNE — Some good crappie fishing reports have come in this week with best catches made up Corney fishing shiners or jigs 4-5 feet deep around submerged tops. Bass fishing has been fair to good with soft plastics taking a good many fish around grass and moss beds in the sloughs. Best colors this week have been Candy Bug, U-Tail, Smoke Candy, Tequila Sunrise and June Bug. Bream and catfish continue to bite cold worms fished off the banks. LAKE CLAIBORNE — The bass have slowed down this week. Crappie continue to bite around the deep tops with shiners outshining jigs this week. Bream fishing has been good around the beds on crickets and worms. Stripers are schooling on top occasionally but have been hard to catch.
