Jakyra Langham, Nautica Caldwell and Jakiya White of Bastrop have qualified for the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympics Championships to be held July 24-30 in Lawrence, Kansas.

Jakyra Langham, Nautica Caldwell and Jakiya White of Bastrop have qualified for the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympics Championships to be held July 24-30 in Lawrence, Kansas.

Representing the Monroe-based Massey Miracle Track Club, the trio advanced based on their finish at the Region VI Meet in Huntsville, Alabama.

Caldwell qualified in the 1500 meters, 3000m and the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. White qualified in the 1500m run and the 4 x 400m relays, while Langham advanced in the 4 x 400m relay.

Massey Miracle relay teams going to Nationals in the 15-16 year-old division are: 4 x 100m (fifth place) Ashuna Warren, Kyera Williams, Kayla Mays and Nautica Caldwell; 4 x 400m (fourth place) Ashuna Warren, Kyera Williams, Zaria Singleton and Nautica Caldwell.

Qualifying in the 17-18 year relays were: 4 x 400m (second place) Jakiya White, Jakyra Langham, Deandrea Carter and Katrina Anderson; 4 x 100m (fifth place) Deandrea Carter, Kiana Johnson, Trina Anderson and Nykessia Knight (fifth place).

In all, 42 youths from the Massey Miracle Runners qualified for Nationals. The local athletes are coached by Frankie Harris. Coaches for the Massey team are Detrick Massey and Charles Smith.

The Bastrop trio will hold a fund raiser Saturday at Harris Hands On Car Wash in Mer Rouge. In addition to the car wash, they will be selling rib plates (ribs, Rotel chicken casserole, baked beans and cake) for $10.
