NELA fishing outlook:

BLACK BAYOU — The water level is stable and a good many bream are being caught on shallow beds. Bass are fair around the grass; crappie are slow. Contact the Honey Hole Tackle Shop at 323.8707 for latest information.

CANEY LAKE — Bass fishing has been good with topwater lures, such as the Whopper Plopper, taking some bass along the sea walls and the grassy points. No real lunkers but fish are from below the slot to the slot with a few above. Crappie fishing has been fair fishing the deeper tops with shiners and jigs. OUACHITA RIVER — The river is falling and bass fishing is steadily improving. Fishing Whopper Ploppers at the mouth of the cuts is producing some good catches. LAKE D’ARBONNE — The water level is falling and water is clearing up some. Lots of bream and catfish are being caught fishing crickets, cold worms or night crawlers off the banks and on the shallow flats. Crappie fishing has been best fishing shiners or jigs 7 feet deep in 12-14 foot water on the flats. Bass fishing has been fair to good with some fish still shallow while others are on the deeper ledges and hitting soft plastics, spinners, Rat-L-Traps or jigs. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie fishing has been fair to good fishing shiners or the Popsicle jig 12-15 feet deep in 20 foot water around submerged brush. Catfishing has been good using both stump hooks or noodles baited with small live bream. The stripers are finally beginning to school a bit with some caught on shad imitations. Also, some fair catches are being made at night around lighted piers on Rogues. Bass fishing has been best fishing the shallows early using topwater lures and at night using dark plastics.
