Sterlington 16, Lakeview 0

Sterlington took any suspense out of Tuesday's first round Class 2A state softball game with a 13-run first inning en route to a 16-0 win over Lakeview.

Seeded No. 6, the Lady Panthers (20-12) await the winner of Wednesday afternoon's game between No. 22 Lake Arthur and No. 11 Mamou.

Going right to work against the No. 27 seed Lady Gators (7-11), Sterlington put its first seven batters aboard before the first out was recorded.

Tanner Wilson and Jada Smith opened the bottom of the first with successive walks to set up K.B. Briley's two-run triple. Catherine Trichell followed with an RBI single and the rout was on. Later in the inning, Briley doubled home two more runs and Trichell crashed a two-run homer — her seventh of the season.

Working one inning apiece, three Sterlington pitchers combined for a no-hitter. Madison McLaren, who drew a two-out walk in the third, was Lakeview's only base runner.

Starter Breanna Sylvestri worked a three-up, three-down first to record the win, with Tanner Wilson and Madigan Stevens in relief.

Trichell (home run, single, 3 RBI) and Briley (triple, double, 4 RBI) led the Lady Panthers at the plate, with base hits by Stevens, Amber Parnell and Carly Wilson.
