Prairie View 12, Union Christian 0 (2nd game)
FARMERVILLE — Hayes Crockett went 3-for-4 with four RBI, Andrew Janes homered and three pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as Prairie View routed Union Christian 12-0 in the second game of Thursday night's regular season-ending double header.
Winners of 12 straight, the Spartans (23-2, 13-2 MAIS District 6-2A) now await the release of the state playoff pairings. Prairie View receives a first-round and will play the winner between the District 5-2A champion and the District 4-2A runner-up. All MAIS playoff matchups are played under the best-of-three format.
Auston Smith singled to left with two outs in the first, stole second and crossed home on Blake Ray's RBI double to give the Spartans a 1-0 first-inning lead.
Hunter Herring singled with one out in the fourth, continued to second on an error and scored on Crockett's base hit as Prairie View went up 2-0 in the fourth.
Prairie View put the game away with four in the fifth and six in the sixth.
Dalton Daniel opened the fifth with a base hit, pilfered second and completed the circuit on Layton Rainbolt's RBI double.
With two away, Ray singled Rainbolt home, Herring cranked an RBI double and Crockett jabbed a two-run single, upping the margin to 6-0.
Herring struck out seven through three perfect innings for the win. Mason Rogers worked a 1-2-3 fourth before giving way to Caldwell.
Janes led off the sixth with a home run over the left field fence. Caldwell later added an RBI double.
All nine starters contributed to the Spartans' 13-hit output. Crockett had three singles, Ray and Herring doubled and singled, Janes went deep, Rainbolt, Caldwell, Jacob Fortner and Daniel doubled and Smith singled.
UCA did not manage a base runner until Pat Carpenter singled leading off the fifth. Evan Hodge, Joe Carpenter and Jeremy Hicks added base hits for the Lions.
Hunter Beach was dealt the loss and followed to the hill by three relievers.
