Prairie View 11, Glenbrook 3 (1st game)

All nine starters contributed to a 13-hit attack as Prairie View rolled to an 11-3 triumph over Glenbrook in the first game of a double header Friday night.

With the victory, the Spartans evened the MAIS District 6-2A best-of-three series.

Prairie View starter Tanner Caldwell worked a 1-2-3 first, and kick-started the Spartans offensively in the home half of the frame.

Leading off for the Spartans, Layton Rainbolt fought off four straight 2-2 pitches in a nine-pitch at bat before flying out to second baseman Peyton Wells. Caldwell then singled to left, stole second and motored to third on a wild pitch. Five pitches later, Auston Smith was awarded a free pass to first and took second uncontested. Hunter Herring followed with an RBI groundout and Hayes Crockett's base hit to left chased Smith across with the second run of the inning.

Prairie View opened up a commanding 10-0 spread with four-spots in the second and third.

Dalton Daniel beat out a dribbler to the left side for an infield hit, swiped second and drifted to third on Connor Ouellette's bunt single. Prairie View then executed a double steal, with Daniel sliding home safely as Ouellette drew a throw while swiping second and continued to third on an errant throw.

Moments later, Andrew Janes was hit by a pitch, bringing up the top of the batting order.

Janes stole second to place two runners in scoring position, and Rainbolt jabbed a two-run single up the middle. Rainbolt was eventually caught in a rundown for the second out as Smith reached on a wayward throw. Smith, who advanced to third during the rundown, scored on a second errant toss as the Spartans went up 6-0.

On to the third inning, Ray coaxed a leadoff walk, pilfered second, went to third on Daniel's groundout and trotted home on Ouellette's RBI single to center. Next, Janes singled Ouellette to second.

One out later, Caldwell cracked an RBI double to left and Smith walked to load the bases. Herring, the Spartans' cleanup batter, then drilled a two-run single to left, extending the margin to 10-0.

Nick Mourad's two-out solo shot over the left field wall put the Apaches on the board in the fourth.

Glenbrook added two more in the fifth as Brandon Merritt drew a leadoff walk, Cade Clemons reached on a two-base error and Cameron Barnett laced an RBI single to left.

Prairie View wrapped up the scoring in the sixth when Ray's single to right chased home Smith, who opened the frame with a single and stole second.

Caldwell threw three scoreless innings for the win. Herring struck out four over the middle two innings, and Mason Rogers finished up with two scoreless stanzas. Prairie View's three pitchers combined for seven punchouts while walking only one.

Rainbolt and Caldwell doubled and singled for the Spartans (11-1, 1-1), Ouellette and Janes provided two singles apiece, and Smith, Herring, Crockett, Ray and Daniel singled.

Wells had two singles for Glenbrook, Mourad went deep and Barnett, Parker Christy and Mason Hood contributed base bumps.

Brandon Merritt worked four innings in a losing cause for the Apaches (5-7, 1-1) with Jonathan Parkerson in relief.
