Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jo Scroggins Spear, 74 of Bastrop will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Bishop Jimmie Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, December 17 at Cox Funeral Home.

Betty Jo Scroggins Spear was born October 29, 1934 in Warren Ark. to the late James Edwards Scroggins and Geneva Scroggins Hargraves and she died suddenly December 14, 2008 at her home in Bastrop. Betty was the valedictorian of her high school class at Drew County High School in Monticello, Ark. and a retired operator with Bell South Telephone Company. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack Spear.

She is survived by her fiance' Jim Scoggins of Bastrop; her stepmother, Mrs. Ruth Scroggins Wright and her husband, Bishop Jimmie Wright of Bastrop; a brother, Mike Scroggins and his wife, Lynn Grafton Scroggins of Bastrop; four stepsisters, Julie Heath, Melinda Jewell, Peggy Bray, Pam Ryburn; two stepbrothers, Tim Wright and Jim Wright; her godchild, Erin Elizabeth Horton and her parents, Wayne and Peggy Horton of Bastrop; and the Spear family.

Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Horton, John Lang, James Scoggins Jr., Kevin Scoggins, Tim Wright, Jim Sharpton and Todd Spear.
