Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Edwards Hudson, 87, of Bastrop will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at the First Assembly of God of Bastrop with the Revs. Leonard Sapp, Jeff Willis and Doug Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.

Mrs. Essie Staten Edwards Hudson was born June 1, 1927 in Dardenelle, Ark. and she passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. A longtime resident of Mer Rouge, Mrs. Hudson was an active member of the First Assembly of God in Bastrop and a retired nurse having worked many years for both Dr. Bernard Soto and Dr. Joe B. Williams in Mer Rouge.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and husband, Curtis Edwards.

Mrs. Hudson is survived by her husband Harrel Hudson of Bastrop; a son, Harold Edwards and wife Linda of Mer Rouge; two grandchildren, Cassie Edwards Clingen and husband Jerry of Bastrop and Chris Edwards and wife Ingela of McKinney, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Madeline Edwards, Jessica Edwards, R.J. Williams and Scarlett Williams; two stepsons, Richard H. Hudson Jr. of Houston, Texas and David E. Hudson and wife Donna of Eros; and two stepgrandchildren, J. Ryan Hudson and Hillery Hudson.

Serving as pallbearers are Charles Summerlin, Lavon Edwards, Lance Edwards, Jonathon Edwards, Jerry Don Edwards, and Charles Lee Edwards.
