A narcotics officer with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's office has resigned following an audit that revealed what Sheriff Mike Tubbs said "is a very small amount of funds" missing from an account used to purchase drugs from suspected drug dealers.

Sheriff Mike Tubbs confirmed Tuesday that Lt. Chris Balsamo, a 14-year employee with the department, submitted his resignation Tuesday after $100 was found missing from a safe where money to make buy-bust cases was kept.

Tubbs said the results of an internal investigation, expected to be completed later this week, will be forwarded to the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office for review.

More details on this story will be posted as they become available.
