Bastrop, La. -

The City of Bastrop will honor a man who has given 20 years of service to the area today.

Former Bastrop Mayor Clarence Hawkins, who became mayor for the first time in 1989 as the city’s 33rd mayor, will be honored with a reception provided by the Bastrop/Morehouse Chamber of Commerce from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Bastrop Municipal Center, 1901 Moeller Drive.

“We just wanted to do this for him,” Dorothy Ford, Chamber executive director, said. “He’s given us 20 years of service. He has such a strong influence, and he is going to be missed. We encourage all of Morehouse Parish [to come by the reception]. ”

The reception will allow everyone that knows Hawkins and has worked with him to stop by and say thanks to him and his family for what they have done over the past 20 years.
