The time to shop for Christmas is upon us and everyone is making their lists and checking them twice. Inevitably there is someone on that list that is just hard to shop for; those people who have everything and what they don’t have, they don’t want.

The Enterprise is going to try to make the shopping for those hard to buy for people in your life a little easier, and you don’t even have to leave Bastrop to find that perfect gift.

For the wife, mother, mother-in-law or any other woman in your life, permanent make-up is the perfect answer. Not only does it save valuable time in the mornings, in the long run it also saves money.

Think this can’t be done in Bastrop? Wrong. Gaye Laing at A’Michael’s now offers permanent make-up, with beautiful results. Laing, who has been in the beauty industry for years, is a talented artist who paints many different items for sale in her shop, so starting permanent make-up was a natural extension of her many artistic gifts. She attended permanent cosmetics training under one of the best in the business and has not slowed down since.

Laing says permanent make-up is a great way to enhance natural beauty and save time and energy each day. Waking up looking good is not the only benefit, though.

“With permanent make-up, you do not have to worry about sweating off your make-up in the heat or having to reapply lipstick all day. It’s done,” said Laing. “Lips remain perfect, as do eyebrows and eyeliner.”

For an older person who is beginning to have trouble applying eyeliner or someone with little or no eyebrows, permanent make-up is perfect. It is also a great way to improve the appearance of thin lips and remedies the problem for those allergic to make-up.

Permanent make-up is applied in a similar fashion of a tattoo. Clients are given a topical anesthetic to numb the skin and the procedure usually takes about an hour or two. A hollow, vibrating needle is used to place pigment into the middle layer of skin. The skin will be swollen and red after the procedure, but clients can go home shortly after and the swelling is usually greatly decreased in 24 hours.

A follow-up visit is scheduled for any adjustments to shape, color and density.

Another great gift for the person who has everything is a massage. There is nothing better to relieve stress or work out sore, tired or aching muscles than a great massage. It is the perfect way to start or end a work-week or just unwind and relax.

Marisha Hawthorne Brown at Central Chiropractic offers 25 minute, 50 minute and 75 minute messages in the privacy of a relaxing room with an atmosphere of tranquility. She specializes in Swedish and therapeutic massage and also does hot stone massages as well as facial peels.

"Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. It involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping and vibration and may provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation and other health problems. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculo-skeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load.

Brown is open by appointments Monday through Thursday and gift certificates are available for both women and men.

Brown has worked in the massage therapy field for over 12 years and says the benefits of a good massage are many.

“Massages are not only great stress relievers, they also increase circulation and mobility,” said Brown.
