Now is the time of year when everyone is trying to get rid of those unwanted pounds added during the holidays. Spring and summer are just around the corner and most are ready to shed those pounds and get back in shape.
Bastrop Main Street, in conjuction with The Fitness Lodge is trying to help those who are conscious of the need to lose a pund or two. They are sponsoring three Monday night classes of Zumba, which is a dance fitness class sweeping the nation.
The classes will be held at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8, 15 and 22 at the Visitor Center at no cost.
Zumba is a fun fitness workout based on Latin rhythms and easy dance moves. Instructor Malynn Smith said the dancing consists of hip-hop, salsa, merengue and a reggaeton dancing and is perfect for all ages.
The routine features fast and slow rythms and resistance training which combines to tone and sculpt while burning fat.
“You burn about 100 calories every 10 minutes,” said Smith. “But, the whole class is like a party, so you don’t even realize how much you are doing.”
The Fitness Lodge also offers Zumba classes on Monday and Friday at 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and two Saturdays a month. Lodge membership is not needed to attend the classes; packages for classes only are available.
During the Monday night classes, child care will be provided.
