A fun-filled day is being planned at the Tractor Supply Company on March 5, called “Strut Your Stuff.” Robert Hebron, store manager, has been working on this project for several months and the day-long activities promise the entire family a good time.
“We are going to open the store at 7 a.m. for the ‘Early Bird’ specials. Customers with a purchase of $100 or more will receive a 25 per cent discount from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. The poultry show and arts and crafts show will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” said Hebron.
A barbecue lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., consisting of chicken, bake beans, potato salad, roll and a drink. After lunch the games begin, starting at 2:30 p.m. with “Struttin’ My Stuff”, for best groomed hen/rooster costume for ages 13 and under. Then the “Barnyard Peak” for best chicken hat, create and enter your chicken themed hat, ages 13 and under.
For those who love to eat hot wings, enter the “Something to Crow About” contest or see how far you can chuck your chicken in the “Rubber Chicken Chunk.” The rooster crowing contest (cock-a-doodle-doo) titled “Morning Song” is for ages 13 and under.
One category that will be judged by members of the community is the “Favorite Chicken Casserole Recipe Contest”. All recipes will be featured in local publication, and casseroles will be served as free meal to all participants and guests, To enter this contest, pre-register at Tractor Supply prior to March 3. The winning recipe wins a $50 TSC gift card.
Stone Cold Country band will play from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the “Chicken Dance.” Other activities for the day will be face painting, egg decorating, and egg toss.
The Girl Scouts will have a booth in front to sell the famous girl scout cookies, the area 4-H Clubs will help with some of the contest and Larry Boyte of FFA in West Carroll Parish will be showing some different species of chickens.
Hebron said that there will be baby chicks for sale along with several toy items relating to the event. This is all free to the public and is a family oriented fun day. Hebron hopes this will be the first of many events the store will sponsor for Morehouse Parish residents.
