Saints fans are funny creatures. They are superstitious about everything from the way they watch the games to the clothes they wear while watching. Hardcore fans are just getting over the heart problems they endured while watching the Saints make history and earn a sport in the Super Bowl and now it’s time for all of those palpitations, dizzy spells and screaming fits once again.

Talking with long-time fans often reveals a side of them no one knew existed. Take for example Jonette Gray and Staci Floyd. The two have been best friends for too long to mention and, in 1991, they attended a Saints game in New Orleans. While on Bourbon Street, the duo spotted “Who Dat?” champagne and decided to get a couple of bottles. They vowed to open them when the Saints went to the Super Bowl. Fast forward 19 years and the bottles are ready to be opened this Sunday.

Floyd and Gray look like normal adults. But, that changes when the Saints play.

“I don’t like to socialize while the game is on,” said Gray. “I’m there to watch the game and would rather just be at home on my couch than with people on game days. I can get pretty intense.”

Floyd does usually watch with a group, but has a spot that nobody else better even try to sit in.

“They know not to mess with me or my spot when the game is on,” said Floyd.

These two are not alone in their love of the Saints. Ray Waller takes his games pretty serious, too.

“We had to go to my son’s house in Sterlington to watch the Dallas game and I told my son, Justin, we needed to get on home when they were losing." Waller predicts the Saints will intercept at least two passes and come out victorious in a tight game of 38-34.

Jerry Lavall has been a fan since he was about 11 years old and also predicts a win.
“It’s our time, our year,” said Levall.

There is no doubt about the team Zach Brandon thinks is going to win the Super Bowl. When this reporter called him to ask about the game, Brandon answered the phone by saying, “Who dat? Who dat sayin’ they gonna beat those Saints? Who dat?” Brandon and his brother, Lester have been fans since the late 70’s and both have their Sunday planned out.

“I am going to get together and visit with some friends, but when the game comes on, I’ve got to get back home to watch,” said Lester Brandon. “That’s serious stuff.”

Brother Zach said he would also be with friends.

“I will be at my house watching my 65 inch TV that I bought for the Saints,” said Zach. “I have hung with them and I will get the last laugh at the ones who didn’t think they would ever play in the Super Bowl.”
