Allen Campbell was named the new Chief of Police at a special meeting of the Mayor and Board of Alderman on Tuesday. Wednesday, Campbell and Mayor Arthur E. Jones spoke with the Enterprise about the decision and the vision for the Bastrop Police Department going forward from a year of discussion centered around officer shortages, the need for increased compensation as a recruitment tool and the retirement of Chief Downey Black at the end of 2014.
