Livestock has been a part of 4-H ever since the very beginning. It teaches young people character, sportsmanship, responsibility, and time management. Here in Morehouse Parish we still have youth exhibiting animals in livestock shows year-round. Just this past weekend 3 members from Morehouse Parish competed with their dairy cattle and rabbits.

Matthew and Charlee Sistrunk both attend Beekman Charter School and have shown Dairy cattle for many years. They show at the Mississippi State Fair, State Fair of Louisiana, the Northeast District 4-H/FFA Livestock Show, the LSU AgCenter 4-H/FFA State Livestock Show, and numerous other shows throughout the year. This weekend Matthew won 1st place in Dairy Showmanship in his age division. He had the Reserve Grand Champion Jersey Cow, along with several other class placings. Charlee placed 3rd in Dairy Showmanship in her age division. She had the Reserve Grand Champion Guernsey Cow, along with other class placings.

Melody Garcia attends Prairie View Academy and has been showing rabbits for a little over a year now. She shows at the Northeast District 4-H/FFA Livestock Show, the LSU AgCenter 4-H/FFA State Rabbit Show, the State Fair of Louisiana and other ARBA sanctioned shows during the year. This weekend at the State Fair of Louisiana Melody placed 2nd in Rabbit Showmanship in her age division. She received three 1st place ribbons, three 2nd place ribbons, a 6th place ribbon, and 3 Best Opposites with her rabbits.

Congratulations to these young people that put so much hard work and dedication into their Livestock Projects! Keep up the great work guys!
