The Cub Scout Pack 323-Bastrop will be partnering with the local Boy Scout Troop 56, November 3, Saturday to put out those famous brown "SCOUTING FOR FOOD" bags.
The purpose for the food drive is to make sure local folks in Bastrop have food through the winter holidays. Canned goods, non perishable items, and peanut butter are always needed at the local "Care and Hope Ministry-Thrift Store operated by Mrs. Pam Smith Walker and staff in the Pines Shopping Center in Bastrop. The two youth groups will begin putting the bags by front doors and mailboxes in several neighborhoods as well as participating in a Den program to see which Den can collect the most food.
"Our citizens in Bastrop always enjoys seeing our Scouts out in the neighborhoods in their uniforms doing good deeds during this time of year," stated Mr. Frankie Hinson, Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 323.
On each bag that will be given out there are instructions letting each home know that the Scouts will be back to pick up the bags on November 10, Saturday around 9am. People should put the bags with can goods near their mailbox mailbox or by front door in plain sight so the Scouts know where they are. The Scouts have a goal of collecting 3,000 items or 2,000 pounds of food for holiday distribution.
"We know we can count on the good folks of Bastrop to open their hearts as well as their pantries to make the holidays a little bit more cheery for those that may need an extra hand," says Debra Hinson, Committee Chair of Cub Scout Pack 323.
The Scout Law that Scouts learn not only in word but in deed is "A Scout is Helpful which means a Scout will try to help when he sees a need., A Scout is Kind which means a Scout will extend kindness to everyone especially those that maybe down or in need., and A Scout is Friendly which means being friendly to everyone, not just those he/she may know, understanding that "strangers" are perhaps "friends" they haven't met yet." says Mr. Toby Weber, Troop Master of Troop 56.
Should anyone have a youth in their family that would be interested in the Scouting program feel free to call Debra Hinson at 318-282-1225.
