Wednesday evening around 7 p.m. an inmate escaped from the Morehouse Parish Jail Annex, and then rang the front bell to come back inside.

Chief James Mardis said the details of how the inmate escaped and why he came back are unclear, but the report stated that the offender, Dean Perkins, squeezed through the back gate of the annex.

Records state that Perkins was ringing the front bell to come inside the annex after he escaped through the back gate.

Perkins has been charged with simple escape and has been booked into the Morehouse Parish Jail.
