The Greater Magnolia Baptist Church received a plaque honoring their efforts to Keep Morehouse Beautiful on Tuesday afternoon.

Pastor Mozell Smith said it took the church two years to purchase the property in order to clean it up.

"When we purchased the property you could not see the church from Maribel Street or from the park on Welch Street," he said. "We tore down five houses, and trees and removed underbrush. We plan on using the additional room for parking."

KMB President Vicki Carpenter said the church did this on their own accord.

"They did not receive any government incentive, but they did this on their own," she said.
