To show appreciation for our retired teachers Louisiana's Governor, John Edwards, declared March 15 to be Retired Teachers Day, and on March 12, at 11 a.m., Bastrop's Mayor, Henry Cotton, followed suit with a proclamation of his own.

The proclamation, declaring March 15 Retired Teachers Day in Bastrop, notes how retired teachers have devoted many years to educating youth and adults, acted as leaders in the community, helped to improve quality of life for many, and still perform many of these services though they are now retired. Retired Teachers Day has been put in place to honor these teachers and thank them for the many lives they have touched and changed throughout their careers.

Cotton signed the proclamation in the presence of Mrs. Kay Arthur of Morehouse Retired Educators, and Mrs. Wilma Cotton, President of the Retired Teachers Association.
